This policy explains what information NameWren.com (“NameWren”, “we”) collects when you visit, how it is used and the choices you have. The site is run by Tess Calloway, 128 River Rd, Hendersonville, Tennessee, United States. Questions go to contact@namewren.com.

The short version

You do not need an account to use NameWren. The name finder, your shortlist, your quiz answers and any last name you type are handled inside your own browser and are not sent to us. We use cookies for basic analytics and ads only if you accept them.

What stays in your browser

  • Shortlist. Names you heart are saved in your browser’s local storage under the key nw_short. We never receive this list. Clearing your browser data removes it.
  • Finder settings. Your slider settings, origins, last name and names to avoid are kept in the page address after the # sign. That part of an address is not sent to web servers. If you share the link, the person you send it to sees the same settings.
  • Quiz answers. Kept in session storage while you take a quiz and deleted when you close the tab.
  • Cookie choice. Your accept or decline answer is stored in local storage so we do not ask again.

What we collect

  • Server logs. Like most websites, our host records technical data such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. These logs are used to keep the site secure and working, and are deleted on a rolling basis.
  • Analytics, with your consent. If you accept cookies, we load Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are useful. IP anonymization is turned on. If you decline, the analytics script is not loaded at all.
  • Advertising. We may show ads from advertising partners such as Google. These partners can use cookies or similar technology to show ads and measure them, and may personalize ads where the law allows it and you have agreed. You can manage Google ad personalization at adssettings.google.com.
  • Email. If you write to us, we receive your email address and message and use them only to reply. We keep that correspondence as long as it is useful and delete it on request.

What we do not do

We do not sell your personal information. We do not ask for your name, your baby’s name or your due date. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. This site is written for adults.

Sharing

We share data only with the services that run the site: our web host, our analytics provider if you consent, and advertising partners as described above. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Your choices and rights

  • You can decline cookies in the banner, or clear the stored choice in your browser to see the banner again.
  • You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
  • Depending on where you live, including California and the European Economic Area, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to correct it or to have it deleted. Email contact@namewren.com and we will answer within the time the law requires.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Big changes will also be noted on the home page for a while.
